Dealing with Drains:

November 10th, 2017

Drain clogs happen, so it is a good thing to know how to unclog them. It is also good to know and practice good prevention methods. By being careful about what is and isn’t put down the drain, we can help insure that the clog never forms in the first place.

Most drain clogs can be cleared by the home owner or resident, without intervention by a professional plumber. You may succeed with home drain cleaning methods. If the clog is not too bad, hot water alone may do the trick. You can also use baking soda and vinegar, followed by hot water. That won’t hurt anything, at least, and may do the job. You may choose to use commercial drain clearing products. Please remember that those are toxic and dangerous if used improperly. You must be careful to follow all warnings and directions with care. Follow with lots of water if the drain opens.

In the case that prevention fails to prevent the clog, and clearing attempts don’t succeed, there is always the plumber nearby. Your local plumbing professional is ready and able to clear that clog for you and get your plumbing ready to go again.
